AGILE Observations of Fast Radio Bursts

چکیده
We report on a systematic search for hard X-ray and gamma-ray emission in coincidence with fast radio bursts (FRBs) observed by the AGILE satellite. used 13 years of archival data searching time coincidences between exposed FRBs events detectable MCAL (0.4-100 MeV) GRID (50 MeV-30 GeV) detectors at timescales ranging from milliseconds to days/weeks. The current sky coverage allowed us extend high-energy preceding following FRB occurrence. considered all sources currently included catalogues, identified sub-sample (15 events) which good exposure either or was obtained. In this paper we focus non-repeating FRBs, compared few nearby repeating sources. did not detect significant MeV GeV any event. Our upper limits (ULs) energy range were obtained sub-millisecond seconds, minutes weeks around event times. sub-set 5 2 whose distances are most likely smaller than that 180916.J0158+65 (150 Mpc). For these sources, our ULs translate into isotropically-emitted about 3x10^46 erg, comparable 2004 giant flare Galactic magnetar SGR 1806-20. On average, emit pulses energies significantly larger recently detected 1935+2154 yet associated intense flaring.

On Associating Fast Radio Bursts with Afterglows
A radio source that faded over 6 days, with a redshift z ≈ 0.5 host, has been identified by Keane et al. (2016) as the transient afterglow to a Fast Radio Burst (FRB 150418). We report followup radio and optical observations of the afterglow candidate, and find a source that is consistent with an active galactic nucleus (AGN). If the afterglow-candidate is nonetheless a prototypical FRB aftergl...
متن کاملPhysical Constraints on Fast Radio Bursts
Fast Radio Bursts (FRBs) are isolated, ms radio pulses with dispersion measure (DM) of order 10 pc cm. Galactic candidates for the DM of high latitude bursts detected at GHz frequencies are easily dismissed. DM from bursts emitted in stellar coronas are limited by free-free absorption and those from HII regions are bounded by the nondetection of associated free-free emission at radio wavelength...
متن کاملUnveiling the origin of fast radio bursts by optical follow-up observations
We discuss how we can detect and identify counterparts of fast radio bursts (FRBs) in future optical follow-up observations of FRBs if real-time alerts for FRBs become available. We consider kilonovae as candidates for FRB optical counterparts, as expected in the case that FRBs originate from mergers of double neutron star binaries. Although theoretical predictions on luminosities of kilonovae ...
متن کاملFast radio bursts: the last sign of supramassive neutron stars
Context. Several fast radio bursts have been discovered recently, showing a bright, highly dispersed millisecond radio pulse. The pulses do not repeat and are not associated with a known pulsar or gamma-ray burst. The high dispersion suggests sources at cosmological distances, hence implying an extremely high radio luminosity, far larger than the power of single pulses from a pulsar. Aims. We s...
متن کاملThe Fluence and Distance Distributions of Fast Radio Bursts
Fast radio bursts (FRB) are millisecond-duration radio pulses with apparent extragalactic origins. All but two of the FRBs have been discovered using the Parkes dish, which employs multiple beams formed by an array of feed horns on its focal plane. In this paper, we show that (i) the preponderance of multiple-beam detections and (ii) the detection rates for varying dish diameters can be used to...
